2012 first-rounder Dumba assigned to Houston

The Minnesota Wild announced on Monday that the team has assigned defenseman Mathew Dumba from the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL) to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Dumba, 18, posted 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points, including six power-play goals, and was a plus-10 with 80 penalty minutes in 62 regular-season games for Red Deer this season. Dumba added two goals and two assists in nine playoff games.

The 6-foot, 182-pound native of Calgary, Alta., started the season with Minnesota and was reassigned to the Rebels on Jan. 27 without appearing in a game with the Wild.

Dumba was Minnesota’s first-round pick (seventh overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
