AHL announces front-office promotions

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that Nathan Costa has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Team Business Services and Maria Lauring has been promoted to the position of Director of Team Business Analytics.

Costa, who had been the AHL’s manager of team business services since joining the league in 2009, will be responsible for managing the league’s innovative TBS program – a broad initiative providing quantitative and qualitative best-practices support to AHL member clubs, focusing on ticket sales, sponsorships, data collection, analysis and reporting.

A native of Springfield, Mass., and a graduate of Northeastern University, Costa succeeds Todd Frederickson, who left the AHL in April after five seasons to become team president of the Iowa Wild.

Lauring, who joined the AHL front office in 2010, is responsible for managing and analyzing all of the league’s financial data collection and assisting in the identification of corporate best practices for use by all 30 member clubs. The native of Worcester, Mass., holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and a master’s in sports management from Springfield College.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 87 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the 12th year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2012-13.
