Toronto hosts Game 3 of the North Division Finals tonight but it’s Syracuse holding the 2-0 series lead after a pair of weekend victories… The Crunch set a franchise record for goals in a playoff game in Saturday’s 8-5 win in Game 2, with 14 different skaters recording at least one point… Cory Conacher (3-3-6) scored two shorthanded goals, becoming the first AHL player to do that in a Calder Cup Playoff game since Portland’s Mike Boback on Apr. 23, 1994 (at Albany)… Matthew Peca (2-4-6) and Joel Vermin (3-0-3) also scored twice in Game 2, Michael Bournival (1-1-2) and Tye McGinn (3-3-6) each tallied a goal and an assist and Yanni Gourde (1-3-4) picked up three assists for the Crunch, who have won five straight… Conacher (2g, 2a), Gourde (1g, 3a) and former Marlies scoring leader Byron Froese (1g, 3a) are tops among all skaters with four points apiece for the Crunch through two games of the series… Seth Griffith (1-3-4) led the Marlies’ offense with a goal and two assists in Game 2, while Andreas Johnsson (3-0-3), Cal O’Reilly (1-1-2), Kasperi Kapanen (1-2-3) and Carl Grundstrom (1-1-2) also scored for Toronto… Grundstrom, the Maple Leafs’ second-round draft pick in 2016, notched two points in his AHL debut… Toronto was 3-for-7 on the power play on Saturday after going 2-for-19 in its first five postseason games.

In Stanley Cup Playoff action yesterday, Andre Burakovsky scored twice, two-time Calder Cup winner John Carlson added a goal and Washington defeated Pittsburgh, 5-2, in Game 6 of their series.

In the 2017 IIHF World Championships yesterday, J.T. Compher, who recorded 13-17-30 in 41 AHL games as a rookie with San Antonio this season, scored the winning goal for the United States and 2008 AHL All-Star Jimmy Howard made 39 saves in a 4-3 victory over Sweden… David Pastrnak tallied two assists as the Czech Republic rallied late for a 4-3 shootout win over Finland… Nikita Kucherov scored twice to help Russia past Germany, 6-3… Brayden Point scored two goals and Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist as Canada beat Belarus, 6-0.


On This Date
May 9, 2011 – In the longest Game 7 in AHL history, Dustin Boyd scores just six seconds into the third overtime period to give Hamilton a 2-1 win over Manitoba… Eddie Lack makes 55 saves in the loss for the Moose.
