2014 Calder Cup Finals - Game 2 - 8:30 ET | Broadcast Information
The Texas Stars scored three goals on four shots in the second period and opened the 2014 Calder Cup Finals with a 6-3 win over the St. John's IceCaps in Game 1 last night... Three Stars tallied three points each in Game 1: Scott Glennie (6-4-10) had two goals and an assist, Chris Mueller (6-5-11) added a goal and two assists and Dustin Jeffrey (7-5-12) recorded three assists... Travis Morin (6-11-17) scored twice, a power-play marker 3:08 into the game and a shorthanded tally with 3:09 left in the second period to give the Stars a 4-1 lead... Morin's first goal ended the IceCaps' streak of 34 consecutive successful penalty kills... Mike Hedden (7-9-16) tied the Stars' team lead with his seventh goal of the playoffs... Cristopher Nilstorp (10-4, 2.21, .913) stopped 26 of 29 shots in the win... St. John's defenseman Will O'Neill (3-11-14) extended his scoring streak to five games (3-4-7) with a goal... Kael Mouillierat (4-5-9) and Jordan Hill (1-1-2) also scored for the IceCaps, who got single points from nine different skaters... Hill's goal was his first in 83 regular-season and playoff games this season... Michael Hutchinson (11-6, 1.81, .939) allowed five goals on 22 shots in Game 1 after having given up five goals combined in his previous five starts... Texas scored at least six goals in a home game for the fourth time in their last six at Cedar Park Center... St. John's outshot Texas 29-23 in Game 1, including 24-12 over the final 40 minutes... The Stars were 1-for-2 on the power play; the IceCaps were 0-for-4... The IceCaps are looking to avoid an 0-2 hole in the series; in Calder Cup Finals history, only three of the 40 teams to lose the first two games in a best-of-seven format have come back to win the championship.
