Oklahoma City rebounded from a 5-0 loss in Game 1 to even the Western Conference Finals with a 5-1 win over Toronto in Game 2 on Friday night… The series now shifts to Ricoh Coliseum for the next three games, beginning with today’s Victoria Day matinee… Mark Arcobello (5-8-13) and Philippe Cornet (2-5-7) each had a goal and an assist and Yann Danis (8-3, 2.19, .908) made 27 saves in Game 2 as the Barons avenged their most lopsided loss since opening night… Arcobello’s power-play goal, which opened the scoring 4:23 into the game, ended Toronto’s streak of 39 consecutive successful penalty kills; the Marlies had not allowed a PPG since the third period of Game 1 of their opening-round series vs. Rochester… Ryan Keller (5-5-10), Teemu Hartikainen (4-3-7) and Chris VandeVelde (4-0-4) also scored for the Barons, while Magnus Paajarvi (1-7-8), Bryan Rodney (1-7-8) and Bryan Helmer (0-3-3) all recorded two assists… Will Acton (1-0-1) broke up Danis’ shutout bid at 9:21 of the third period… Ben Scrivens (8-2, 1.69, .941) stopped 22 of 26 shots in the loss, allowing four goals in a game for the first time in 10 postseason stars and for just the fifth time all season… Toronto had been 5-0 on the road in the playoffs before Friday’s defeat; Oklahoma City brings a 5-0 playoff road record into Game 3… The teams combined for 154 penalty minutes in Game 2, the most in an AHL playoff game since 2008 (Toronto and Syracuse, 163).

St. John’s looks to get back in the Eastern Conference Finals with some home cooking as Norfolk visits Mile One Centre for Game 3 this evening… The Admirals raced out to a 2-0 series lead with a pair of victories in Norfolk, outscoring the IceCaps by a 9-2 total… Alexandre Picard (8-6-14) scored twice in Game 2 — his third two-goal game this postseason — and now leads the AHL in goals, points and plus/minus rating (+10, tied) in the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs… Richard Panik (3-0-3) scored for the third time in five games after going 14 games without a goal… Dustin Tokarski (6-2, 2.06, .924) made 30 saves in Saturday’s win… John Albert (3-2-5) scored for the IceCaps in Game 2, his first goal in nine games… Paul Postma (1-9-10) recorded an assist to pass teammate Derek Meech (4-5-9) for the AHL playoff scoring lead among defensemen… Eddie Pasquale (7-6, 2.41, .923), lifted from Game 1 after allowing four goals on 21 shots in 33:42 of work, made his 14th consecutive start (and 13th of the playoffs) in Game 2 and stopped 35 of 37 shots for St. John’s… Fifteen different Admirals have recorded at least one point through the first two games of the series, led by Mike Kostka (3-6-9) and Trevor Smith (3-9-12) with three points each… St. John’s, 4-2 at home this postseason, will be playing in front of the 45th consecutive capacity crowd at Mile One Centre… Norfolk tied an AHL record with 28 road wins in the regular season… The Admirals have won four straight games, matching their second-longest winning streak of the season (Dec. 17-30)… The IceCaps have lost four of five since taking a 3-1 series lead on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the second round.

From Calder to Stanley

Shane Doan scored twice and Mike Smith made 36 saves as Phoenix staved off elimination with a 2-0 win over Los Angeles in Game 4 of the NHL’s Western Conference Finals yesterday afternoon… Doan played 39 AHL games for the Springfield Falcons in 1997-98; Smith spent his first four pro seasons in the AHL with Utah (2002-04), Houston (2004-05) and Iowa (2005-06), and appeared in five games with Norfolk last season… Antoine Vermette, who earned a spot on the AHL All-Rookie Team representing Binghamton in 2002-03, had an assist for the Coyotes.
