Connecticut opens a two-game set in St. John’s tonight in a battle of division leaders as the Whale franchise makes its visit to Mile One Centre since Dec. 1, 2002… The Whale are 7-1-1-2 in their last 11 games, the only regulation loss in that span being a 6-3 setback to the IceCaps on Nov. 4… After going without a point in his first five games, Connecticut rookie Jonathan Audy-Marchessault has 5-6-11 in his last seven outings… St. John’s (9-2-3-0) returns home after a 4-0-2-0 road trip… Goaltender Peter Mannino has returned to the IceCaps after a recall to Winnipeg… Jason Jaffray led St. John’s on its road trip with 2-5-7 in the six games… The Whale roster features former St. John’s Maple Leafs Kris Newbury, John Mitchell and Brendan Bell.

Toronto visits Adirondack in an inter-conference tilt tonight… The Phantoms got third-period power-play goals from Denis Hamel and Ben Holmstrom but dropped a 3-2 decision to Syracuse last night… Hamel’s goal was his ninth of the season and the 324th of his AHL career, one shy of former Adirondack Red Wings great Glenn Merkosky for 12th place all-time… This is the seventh of nine straight road games for the Marlies, who are 1-4-1-0 during the stretch so far… Nazem Kadri has a four-game scoring streak for Toronto (0-4-4).

Coming off last night’s 3-2 shootout win over the Stars, Abbotsford is back at the Cedar Park Center this evening for a rematch with Texas… Brendan Mikkelson and Lance Bouma scored in the final 4:04 of regulation to erase a two-goal deficit last night and the Heat scored on three of their four shootout attempts to improve to 5-1-1-0 in its last seven games… Leland Irving, making his 13th start in 14 games, stopped 34 shots in the win… Matt Fraser and Raymond Sawada scored for the Stars, who have still earned points in four straight games (3-0-0-1).

Springfield has won four of five heading into a home date with Bridgeport tonight… The Falcons broke a 1-1 tie with third-period goals from Martin St. Pierre, Ryan Russell and Andrew Joudrey to defeat Portland last night, while the Sound Tigers dropped a 3-2 decision in Worcester yesterday afternoon… Cam Atkinson scored a goal in his fourth straight game for Springfield… David Ullstrom extended his goal-scoring streak to four games (4-1-5) yesterday and Nino Niederreiter scored his first career AHL goal for Bridgeport.

Having lost six of its last eight, Portland welcomes Providence to the Cumberland County Civic Center tonight… Michael Stone scored the Pirates’ only goal in a 4-1 loss at Springfield last night… Nathan Oystrick picked up an assist and now has 1-4-5 in his last three games… Maxime Sauve scored and Anton Khudobin made 30 saves in Providence’s 1-0 win over Manchester last night… It was the Bruins’ first 1-0 win since defeating the Monarchs by that score in overtime on Apr. 15, 2007… Providence has won each of the first two meetings between the teams .

Worcester continues a three-game weekend homestand as Manchester visits the DCU Center tonight… The Sharks held on for a 3-2 win over Bridgeport yesterday, while the Monarchs lost 1-0 in Providence… John McCarthy picked up two points for Worcester, scoring a first-period goal while the Sharks were two men shorthanded… Cam MacIntyre and Brodie Reid also scored for Worcester… Martin Jones made 22 saves in the Monarchs’ loss last night, Manchester’s third shutout defeat of the season and second by a 1-0 score.

After winning just once in its first five contests, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton brings an eight-game winning streak into tonight’s battle with Norfolk at Mohegan Sun Arena… The Penguins came away with a 5-4 overtime win in Hershey last night, clinching the victory on Simon Despres‘s goal 57 seconds into OT… Despres has three goals this season for Wilkes-Barre, all game-winners… Paul Thompson (19:36) and Ryan Craig (19:52) scored late in the second period to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead… Ben Street recorded four assists, giving him 1-6-7 in his last two games… Norfolk, which fell 2-1 in Albany last night, has scored eight goals in its last five games (1-4-0-0) after scoring 46 in its first 10… Cory Conacher scored the only Admirals goal last night, extending his scoring streak to four games (2-2-4).

Albany looks to continue its improved play with a trip to Syracuse tonight… The Devils are 6-1-0-1 in their last eight games, including last night’s 2-1 win over Norfolk… Stephen Gionta and Matt Taormina scored for Albany and Keith Kinkaid stopped 24 of 25 shots for his third straight win in net… Jean-Francois Jacques, Patrick Maroon and Kyle Palmieri scored for the Crunch in a 3-2 win at Adirondack last night… Nate Guenin had two assists, his first two points of the year… This is the first of 10 meetings this season between Albany and Syracuse.

Grand Rapids and Rochester get together at the Blue Cross Arena tonight… The Griffins erupted for an 8-0 win in Hamilton last night, setting a franchise record for shots on goal in a road game (51)… Jamie Johnson (2-1-3), Chris Conner (1-2-3), Doug Janik (1-2-3) and Gustav Nyquist (0-3-3) all had three points in the win, and Jordan Pearce made 29 saves for the shutout and his first victory of the year… Johnson, who was the Amerks’ leading scorer with 71 points in 2009-10, has scored a goal in five straight games for Grand Rapids (6-3-9)… Rochester defeated Binghamton, 3-1, in action last night… Derek Whitmore, Zack Kassian and Brayden McNabb scored for the Amerks, who have won three of their last four.

Charlotte tries to bounce back from last night’s 1-0 loss in tonight’s rematch at Oklahoma City… Gilbert Brule scored the only goal of the game and Yann Danis stopped all 30 shots for his second shutout of the season as the Barons ran their winning streak to six games since a 2-1 loss to Charlotte on Oct. 28… Brule now has 3-3-6 in his last five games, and Danis has stopped 90 of 93 shots in winning his last three starts… Justin Peters stopped 29 of 30 shots in the loss for the Checkers…

Chicago heads to the Bradley Center to face off with Milwaukee this evening… The Admirals have won each of the first three meetings this season between the clubs, with Chris Mueller (2-3-5) and Kyle Wilson (1-4-5) leading all scorers in the season series… Rookie defenseman Ryan Ellis has a four-game scoring streak for Milwaukee (3-3-6)… Former Admiral Darren Haydar is coming off a four-point effort (1-3-4) in Chicago’s 4-1 win over Hamilton on Tuesday.

After a wild 7-6 overtime win by Peoria last night, Rockford welcomes the Rivermen to the BMO Harris Bank Center for the back end of a home-and-home tonight… Before Adam Cracknell won it in OT, Peoria led 4-1 at the halfway point of last night’s game, the IceHogs scored five straight to take a 6-4 lead late, and the Rivermen got two power-play goals from Phil McRae in the final 1:12 of regulation to make it 6-6… McRae finished the night with a hat trick and Danny Syvret had a goal and three assists for Peoria, which will play nine in a row on the road beginning tonight… Jeremy Morin and Ben Smith each notched two goals and an assist for the IceHogs last night… Both teams have scored 19 goals in the first four meetings of the season series.
