In-state foes Bridgeport and Connecticut get the Wednesday schedule off to an early start with a school-day matinee at Webster Bank Arena… The Sound Tigers rallied for a 5-4 shootout victory in the teams’ only previous meeting this season on Oct. 15… The Whale have earned points in eight straight games (6-0-0-2) following an opening-night loss to Adirondack, while Bridgeport is 1-0-1-0 so far to start a five-game homestand… Rookie Casey Cizikas scored his first two pro goals in the Sound Tigers’ 3-2 win over Providence on Saturday… Connecticut has allowed a total of six goals during its current five-game winning streak… Kris Newbury, who started the year with 4-4-8 in four games for the Whale, has been returned to Connecticut by the New York Rangers… The New York Islanders have assigned Nino Niederreiter, the fifth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, to Bridgeport for conditioning; Niederreiter was injured in training camp.

Binghamton visits Albany tonight for the third meeting of the season between the New York state rivals… The Senators already have two wins against the Devils, by identical 4-2 scores on Oct. 16 and Oct. 28… Binghamton had a three-game winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss at Hershey on Sunday, but has still won three of five road games this season… Sens rookie Pat Cannone has 2-1-3 in two games vs. Albany, and 1-2-3 in eight games vs. the rest of the AHL… The Devils have won three of four overall after a 1-5-0-0 start to the season, most recently a 3-2 win over Hamilton on Saturday night… Defenseman Matt Corrente has 1-5-6 in Albany’s last five games, and rookie forward Joe Whitney is on a four-game scoring streak (2-3-5).

Lake Erie and Grand Rapids meet for the first time in 2011-12 as the puck drops at Van Andel Arena tonight… The teams have 17 wins each in split 34 previous meetings, with the Griffins (17-12-1-4) holding the slight 39-38 edge in points (17-13-0-4)… The Monsters have won four of their last five games, and are coming off a stretch in which they played Toronto and Syracuse exclusively over their past eight games… Cedrick Desjardins made his season debut for Lake Erie on Sunday and stopped 29 shots in a 4-0 shutout of the Marlies… Rookie forward Eric Hunter, held without a goal in his first nine games, has scored in each of the Monsters’ last two contests… The Griffins, who have played seven of their first nine on the road, kick off a three-game homestand tonight… Chris Conner (5-8-13) leads Grand Rapids in scoring, and is coming off a three-point effort in Saturday’s 5-3 win in Milwaukee.
