AHL mourns passing of Gordie Anziano

The American Hockey League today is mourning the loss of long-time executive Gordon Anziano, who has passed away at the age of 77.

"Gordie was a great friend to the entire American Hockey League family over the years," said AHL President and CEO David Andrews. "Our sincerest condolences, our thoughts and our prayers are with his wife, Cheryl, and the family."

Anziano joined the AHL office in 1968 as league secretary and publicity director, and later became vice president in charge of hockey operations. He served a total of 31 years until his retirement in 1999.

Anziano was presented with the James C. Hendy Memorial Award in 1992 as the outstanding executive in the AHL, and he was the recipient of the Thomas Ebright Award in 1999 for his career contributions to the league.
