AHL mourns passing of Pat Dineen

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League today is mourning the passing of Pat Dineen, the matriarch of one of the league’s most respected and successful families.

Mrs. Dineen passed away on Thursday after a long illness. She was 75.

“The entire league and our Board of Governors express our condolences to all of Pat’s family and friends on this sad day,” said David Andrews, President and CEO of the American Hockey League. “The Dineen family has been part of the fabric of the AHL for decades, and Pat was a critical part of their success as wife, mother and devoted supporter.”

Pat Dineen was married for more than 50 years to Bill Dineen, a former player and coach in both the AHL and the NHL. Bill won two Calder Cups and was twice named AHL coach of the year during his time with the Adirondack Red Wings as the Dineen family established roots in the Adirondack region. Of Pat and Bill’s six children, all five boys went on to play professional hockey, including four in the American Hockey League: Kevin, who is now the head coach of the Portland Pirates; Gord, now assistant coach for the Toronto Marlies; and current NHL scouts Shawn and Peter.

Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at Singleton-Healy Funeral Home in Queensbury, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Annunciation Church in Queensbury on Monday at 11:00 a.m. The family has requested that donations in Pat’s memory can be made to the Double-H Hole in the Wall Ranch in Lake Luzerne, N.Y.
