AHL Quick Hits: Rats, Sens tangle in Albany tonight

LOOKING BACK:
On Tuesday night, Marty Sertich scored the only goal of the shootout to give Iowa a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Peoria at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines… It was the Stars’ second shootout win of the season in as many meetings with the Rivermen, and their third victory this year after they trailed entering the third period… Toby Petersen accounted for all of Iowa’s offense in regulation with his first career hat trick.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The East Division’s two second-place teams square off on Wednesday when Albany welcomes Binghamton to the Times Union Center for the first time this season… The Senators have earned points in six straight games after a 1-3-0-0 start, and have won four in a row for the first time since April 2006… Greg Mauldin has a goal in three straight games, and Niko Dimitrakos has four points (2-2-4) in two games back from injury… The River Rats are coming off a 5-2 win over Lowell on Saturday… Rookie Jerome Samson and Pat Dwyer each had a goal and an assist in that contest… Goaltender Michael Leighton ranks third in the league in both GAA (1.78) and save percentage (.942).

Another East Division match-up on Wednesday pits Hershey against Norfolk at the Scope Arena in the first of a two-game set… Both clubs topped the 100-point mark in 2006-07, but they sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference through the first month of this season… The Bears, who are playing nine of their first 12 games on the road, lost four of five at Scope last year… Kyle Wilson, currently tied for Hershey’s team lead in goals (3) and points (6), recorded 11 points in eight meetings with the Admirals last season… Bears forwards Jason Morgan and Quintin Laing are both former Norfolk captains… The Admirals have scored just three goals during their current three-game winless skid, most recently dropping a 3-0 decision in Bridgeport on Sunday… Through his first four outings, Norfolk goaltender Jonathan Boutin has the AHL’s best save percentage (.950) and second-best GAA (1.76)… Ads defenseman Dan Jancevski was a member of the Hamilton Bulldogs team that defeated Hershey in the 2007 Calder Cup Finals.

Chicago takes its 7-0-1-0 record into Quad City on Wednesday for the third game of a six-game road swing… The Wolves defeated the Flames by a 7-1 count last Saturday, a game in which winger Jesse Schultz netted a hat trick and Jordan LaVallee added two goals and a helper… Reiging AHL Rookie of the Year Brett Sterling, who scored 55 goals in 2006-07, was assigned to Chicago on Monday after beginning the season in the NHL with Atlanta… Quad City is looking to snap a six-game winless slide (0-4-1-1)… Carsen Germyn, a 28-goal scorer last season, netted his first two of the season in the Flames’ 4-3 overtime loss to San Antonio on Sunday… Grant Stevenson had a goal and an assist on Sunday and now leads Quad City with eight points on the season.

ALUMNI WATCH:
Chris Bourque, who posted 58 points for Hershey last season and five (3-2-5) in eight games this year, made his NHL debut for Washington on Tuesday in the club’s 2-1 overtime loss to Atlanta… In that same game, Thrashers goaltender Ondrej Pavelec, who began the season with the Chicago Wolves, stopped 31 of 32 shots for his second career NHL victory… On Sunday, former Syracuse Crunch netminder Pascal Leclaire earned his league-leading fifth shutout of the season with 21 saves in Columbus’ 3-0 blanking of St. Louis.
