SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews today announced the league’s decision regarding the AHL eligibility of Anaheim Ducks forward Jean-Francois Jacques and Philadelphia Flyers forward Tom Sestito.
Jacques has been ruled ineligible to play in the AHL until October 15, 2011. Sestito has been ruled ineligible to play in the AHL until October 9, 2011.
According to the AHL’s by-laws, a player who is under suspension in another league or organization who seeks to play in the AHL while under that suspension will have the relevant disciplinary matter independently reviewed by the President of the American Hockey League, who may in his discretion deem the player ineligible.
Jacques was suspended by the National Hockey League for the remainder of the preseason plus five regular-season games for leaving the bench on a legal line change for the purpose of starting a fight during a game vs. Vancouver on Sept. 24.
Sestito was suspended by the National Hockey League for the remainder of the preseason plus two regular-season games for an illegal hit from behind during a game vs. the New York Rangers on Sept. 26.
Jacques’ and Sestito’s AHL eligibilities do not affect the terms of their NHL suspensions.
