Albany secures spot in 2016 postseason

The Albany Devils clinched a berth in the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.

Albany (40-17-8-2, 90 points) is the third team to secure one of the AHL’s 16 postseason spots, following Toronto and Ontario. This will be the club’s second trip to the playoffs in the last three years.

The Devils’ 40th win of the season also tied a franchise record, set in 2013-14.

Albany remains solidly in second place in the AHL’s North Division, 11 points behind league-leading Toronto and 13 points in front of third-place Utica. The Devils have nine games remaining on their regular-season schedule.
