The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed forwards Mike Zigomanis and Frederick Roy and defenseman Alex Lepkowski to American Hockey League contracts.
Zigomanis recorded seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in 64 AHL games last season with the Toronto Marlies, before adding nine points (2g, 7a) in nine Calder Cup Playoff games. He also won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the AHL’s Man of the Year for his efforts in the Toronto community.
A veteran of 13 pro seasons, Zigomanis set career highs with 42 assists and 61 points with the Marlies in 2011-12.
In 524 regular-season AHL games, Zigomanis has registered 143 goals and 270 assists for 413 points, and he has totaled 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points in 49 career Calder Cup Playoff games. The Toronto native has also skated in 197 NHL games, notching 21 goals and 19 assists, and was a member of Pittsburgh’s Stanley Cup championship team in 2009.
Roy, 22, played in 64 games with the Amerks last season, recording eight goals and two assists for 10 points in his first season of professional hockey.
In 2011-12, Roy registered 92 points (27g, 65a) in 64 games with the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL), tying for fourth in the league in scoring.
A Montreal native, Roy is the son of former Calder Cup champion and Hockey Hall of Famer Patrick Roy.
Lepkowski, 20, appeared in 60 games with the Barrie Colts (OHL) last season where he collected nine assists and 78 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-4, 214-pound native of West Seneca, N.Y., played in 203 career OHL games with Barrie and Saginaw, recording 27 points (8g, 19a) and 238 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by Buffalo in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
