Amerks sign defenseman Petrecki

The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed defenseman Nick Petrecki to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Petrecki, 25, appeared in 14 regular-season games with the Amerks last season after being acquired on loan from the San Jose Sharks on Mar. 12, 2014, and recorded one assist and 28 penalty minutes. He also made his professional postseason debut, appearing in all five of Rochester’s Calder Cup Playoff games.

Prior to joining the Amerks, Petrecki had played in 35 games with the AHL’s Worcester Sharks last season, recording three points (one goal, two assists) and 54 penalty minutes.

In five AHL seasons, Petrecki has appeared in 291 games with Worcester and Rochester, totaling eight goals and 39 assists for 47 points along with 559 penalty minutes. In 2011-12, he won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the AHL's Man of the Year for outstanding contributions to his local community and charitable organizations.

A native of Schenectady, N.Y., Petrecki was originally selected by San Jose in the first round (28th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He has skated in one career NHL games, making his debut with the Sharks in 2012-13.
