Condors outlast Reign, rain in outdoor thriller

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (theahl.com)Griffin Reinhart‘s goal 46 seconds into overtime gave the Bakersfield Condors a 3-2 win over the Ontario Reign in a memorable American Hockey League outdoor game on Saturday night.

The Three-Way Chevrolet Condorstown Outdoor Classic presented by Mission Bank was played in front of 12,330 fans at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Bakersfield College. It was the ninth outdoor game in AHL history, the eighth to be decided by a single goal and the sixth to require overtime.

Mark Fayne and Josh Currie scored third-period goals for the Condors, who erased a two-goal deficit to end the Reign’s six-game winning streak.

Laurent Brossoit earned the victory in the Bakersfield cage, stopping 24 of 26 shots.

Brett Sutter and Justin Auger scored for the Reign.

The game began in a light drizzle with a game-time temperature of 58 degrees Fahrenheit. By the start of the second period a steady rain was falling, but the skies soon cleared and conditions were ideal for the remainder of the night.
