SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Hershey Bears left wing Nicolas Deschamps has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 22, 2013.

Deschamps scored a goal in all three of his games played last week, finishing with five points and a plus-4 rating while helping the Bears to a 2-1-0-0 record.

On Wednesday night, Deschamps contributed a goal and an assist as Hershey came from behind twice in regulation and eventually claimed a 4-3 shootout victory over Syracuse. On Saturday, he tallied another goal and an assist, helping supply all of the Bears’ offense in a 3-2 loss to Worcester. And on Sunday, Deschamps scored a goal in Hershey’s 4-0 win over the Sharks, extending his personal point-scoring streak to five games.

Deschamps has five goals, five assists and a plus-8 rating in his last five contests and now shows 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 20 games for Hershey on the season. The 23-year-old native of LaSalle, Que., has skated in 239 career AHL games, totaling 45 goals and 77 assists for 122 points, and reached the Calder Cup Finals with Toronto in 2012. Deschamps was originally selected by Anaheim in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft; he was acquired by the Washington Capitals in a trade from Toronto on Mar. 14, 2013.

In recognition of his achievement, Deschamps will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Bears home game.
