Bears down Pens in OT

The Hershey Bears won an East Division battle over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in dramatic fashion when Graham Mink scored the game winner with eight seconds remaining in overtime, wrapping up a 3-2 victory for the home team.

Mink’s goal, which came on the power play, was his 19th of the season.

Hershey got out to an early lead on first period goals by Kris Beech and Tomas Fleischmann. Beech also assisted on Fleischmann’s goal and now has a team-leading 55 points (21g, 34a) on the season.

The Pens would strike back in the second period on goals by Daniel Carcillo and Krystofer Kolanos.

Hershey’s Frederic Cassivi stopped 20 of 22 shots picking up his league-leading 32nd win of the season. Dany Sabourin played well in the loss, making 41 saves on 44 shots.

The Bears (41-19-3-10, 95 pts.) and the Penguins (45-16-5-5, 100 pts.) completed their season series with the Pens finishing with the 6-1-2-1 advantage.

  • Tomas Kopecky scored two goals to help Grand Rapids to a 3-2 win over Rochester; Grand Rapids has now won 10 straight, while the Amerks’ loss allwed Manitoba to clinch a playoff berth in the North Division.
  • Jarkko Immonen scored a goal in regulation and two shootout goals as Hartford beat Providence 3-2.
  • Tony Voce figured in on all the scoring with two goals and two assists and the Phantoms beat the Pirates, 4-1.
  • Bridgeport overpowered Springfield with three third-period goals and defeated the Falcons, 5-2.
  • John Pohl scored his 34th and 35th goals of the season as Toronto beat Milwaukee, 5-2.
  • Iowa goaltender Dan Ellis stopped all 23 shots he faced picking up his second shutout of the season as Iowa beat San Antonio 4-0, the Rampage’s third straight shutout loss.
