Benoit returning to Senators

The Ottawa Senators, parent club of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators, announced Friday that the club has signed defenseman Andre Benoit to a one-year, two-way contract.

Benoit, 28, returns to the Senators organization after having spent the 2011-12 season with Moscow Spartak of the Kontinental Hockey League. In 53 KHL games, he scored five goals and added 12 assists for 17 points along with 34 penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-11, 186-pound native of St. Albert, Ont., was a Second Team AHL All-Star with Binghamton in 2010-11, registering 11 goals and 44 assists for 55 points in 73 games. He also made his NHL debut with Ottawa that season, tallying one assist in eight games.

Benoit, a Calder Cup champion with Binghamton (2011) and Hamilton (2007), has recorded 34 goals and 114 assists for 148 points in 285 career AHL games. He also has eight goals and 37 assists for 45 points in 64 career Calder Cup Playoff contests.
