Blue Jackets, Monsters adding Gerbe

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed veteran center Nathan Gerbe to a two-way contract for the remainder of the 2017-18 season, and will place Gerbe on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters.

Gerbe has played 19 games for Geneve Servette HC in the Swiss NLA this season, posting two goals and five assists.

The 2008-09 recipient of the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding rookie, Gerbe has played 101 games in the AHL and has tallied 41 goals and 53 assists for 94 points. He played in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2010.

A fifth-round draft pick by Buffalo in 2005, Gerbe has skated in 394 NHL games with the Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes, notching 58 goals and 80 assists for 138 points.

At Boston College, Gerbe won a national championship in 2008 and was MVP of the Frozen Four.
