The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenseman Jordan Schmaltz from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Andreas Borgman.
Schmaltz, 25, skated in 36 games with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage in 2018-19, recording one goal and eight assists. He also collected two assists in 20 regular-season games with the Blues.
A fifth-year pro from Verona, Wis., Schmaltz has played 180 games in the AHL with San Antonio and Chicago, recording 15 goals and 78 assists for 93 points.
Schmaltz was a first-round choice (25th overall) by St. Louis in the 2012 NHL Draft, and has five assists in 42 career NHL games with the Blues.
Borgman, 24, tallied four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 45 regular-season games with the Toronto Marlies in 2018-19.
In his first North American season in 2017-18, Borgman was a member of the Marlies’ Calder Cup championship team, tallying four goals and five assists in 25 regular-season games and also appearing in two postseason contests.
Borgman played 48 NHL games with the Maple Leafs in 2017-18, notching three goals and eight assists.
