Bruins battle back to even series

Paul Carey and Alexander Khokhlachev scored early in the third period and Providence clamped down for a 2-1 win over Hartford on Saturday night, evening the teams’ Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at a game apiece.

Game 3 is Sunday evening in Providence.

Down 1-0 in the series and 1-0 in Game 2, the Bruins pulled even in the contest when Carey put home a power-play goal off assists from Ryan Spooner and Seth Griffith at 2:28 of the third. Just over two minutes later, Khokhlachev converted with the teams skating four-on-four to give Providence its first lead.

Hartford managed just three shots on goal in the third period and 21 for the game; Jeremy Smith (1-1) made 20 saves for the win.
