Brust, B-Sens snap Penguins’ streak

BINGHAMTON 5, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 2
Binghamton goaltender Barry Brust made an AHL season-high 52 saves on 54 shots as the Senators ended Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s nine-game road winning streak with a 5-2 victory over the Penguins on Thursday at the Broome County Arena.

The East Division-leading Penguins lost for the first time in 10 road contests on the season (9-1-0-0) and for just the fourth time in 19 outings overall (15-4-0-0).

Defenseman Derek Smith netted a power play goal in the opening period for Binghamton and then assisted on goals by Erik Condra and Zack Smith to record his first three-point effort of the season.

Condra (1-2-3) and Jim O’Brien (1-2-3) also finished with three points on the evening, and defenseman Geoff Kinrade rounded out Binghamton’s offense with a goal and a helper. Zack Smith’s tally at 1:32 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie, and the Senators then tacked on two more markers to account for the final score.

Brust turned in his third consecutive 40-plus save performance – and fifth of the season – and improved his overall mark back over .500 at 8-7-1.

The Senators snapped a mini two-game losing skid, moving to 10-8-2-1 on the campaign.
