Bulldogs’ Kostitsyn sparks WJC upset

Andrei Kostitsyn scored once and added two assists as Belarus pulled off a 5-3 upset victory over the United States in World Junior Championship play in Grand Forks, N.D., on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old Kostitsyn, selected 10th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by Montreal, has six goals and three assists in 30 AHL games with Hamilton in 2004-05.

Kostitsyn’s goal, his first of the tournament, gave Belarus a 5-1 lead midway through the second period.

Through Wednesday’s action, Kostitsyn has five points in four games. The leading scorer in the tournament is Canada’s Patrice Bergeron with eight points; Bergeron is playing this season for the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
