Canadiens acquire Thomas

The Montreal Canadiens, parent club of the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs, have acquired forward Christian Thomas from the New York Rangers, parent club of the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, in exchange for forward Danny Kristo.

Thomas, 21, recorded 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points in 73 AHL games as a rookie with Connecticut in 2012-13. He also appeared in one game with the Rangers, making his NHL debut on Feb. 23 at Montreal.

Thomas, a Toronto native, was a second-round draft pick (40th overall) by the Rangers in 2010.

Kristo, 23, enters his first pro season in 2013-14 after four years at the University of North Dakota. He registered 26 goals and 26 assists for 52 points in 40 games as a senior, leading the WCHA in goals and tying for second in points.

A second-round draft pick (56th overall) by the Canadiens in 2008, Kristo made his pro debut with Hamilton last season and notched three assists in nine games.
