Canucks add Dalpe, Welsh from Canes
The Vancouver Canucks, parent club of the AHL's Utica Comets, have acquired right wing Zac Dalpe and center Jeremy Welsh from the Carolina Hurricanes, parent club of the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, in exchange for Kellan Tochkin and a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Dalpe, 23, has split the last three seasons between Carolina and Charlotte. In 2012-13, he posted one goal and two assists in 10 NHL games with the Hurricanes, along with 21 goals and 21 assists in 54 games with the Checkers.
The native of Paris, Ont., has played in 41 career NHL games, registering five goals and five assists. In 180 career AHL contests, Dalpe has 68 goals and 70 assists for 138 points. He was selected to the AHL All-Rookie Team in 2010-11.
Welsh, 25, appeared in 69 games as a rookie with Charlotte in 2012-13, collecting 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points. He also recorded one assist in five games with Carolina.
A native of Bayfield, Ont., Welsh made his pro debut with Carolina in 2011-12, making his NHL debut following his junior season at Union College.
Tochkin, 22, spent his entire rookie pro season with Missouri of the Central Hockey League in 2012-13, notching 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points.
The Abbotsford, B.C., native played four junior seasons in the Western Hockey League with Everett, Medicine Hat and Prince Albert.
