Canucks, Islanders make trade

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired defenseman Andrey Pedan from the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Alexandre Mallet and a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Pedan, 21, has three assists, 51 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating in six AHL games with Bridgeport this season. As a rookie in 2013-14, Pedan recorded five goals and five assists for 10 points in 28 games with the Sound Tigers.

Pedan was a third-round draft pick by the Islanders in 2011.

Mallet, 22, tallied one goal and four assists for five points in 59 games with Utica last season, his first full year in the AHL. He has not played in the AHL in 2014-15.

Mallet was a second-round choice by the Canucks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
