Capitals, Maple Leafs announce trade

The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Nicolas Deschamps from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for defenseman Kevin Marshall.

Deschamps, 23, has recorded 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 50 games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League this season.

Last season the native of Lasalle, Que., appeared in 71 regular-season games between Syracuse and Toronto, totaling 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points. He notched three goals and nine assists in 17 postseason games for the Marlies, helping them to the Calder Cup Finals.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pound left wing was originally drafted by Anaheim in the second round (35th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 203 career AHL games, totaling 34 goals and 66 assists for 100 points.

Marshall, 24, collected one goal, four assists and 77 penalty minutes in 52 games with Hershey this season. In 268 career AHL games with Adirondack and Hershey, the 2007 second-round draft choice (41st overall) has totaled eight goals, 26 assists and 393 PIM.

Marshall has appeared in 10 career NHL games, all with Philadelphia in 2011-12.
