Capitals sign Chorney

The Washington Capitals, parent club of the AHL’s Hershey Bears, have signed defenseman Taylor Chorney to a one-year, $700,000 contract.

Chorney, 28, recorded four goals and 15 assists for 19 points in 62 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2014-15, and tied for fifth in the league with a plus-26 rating. Chorney also spent time in the NHL with Pittsburgh last season, skating in seven regular-season games and five Stanley Cup Playoff matches.

Entering his eighth pro season out of the University of North Dakota, Chorney has skated in 400 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Chicago, Peoria, Oklahoma City and Springfield, registering 31 goals and 111 assists for 142 points. He has added one goal and six assists in 68 career NHL contests with Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Edmonton.

Chorney was drafted by Edmonton in the second round in 2005.
