Carrick nets Bears’ 20,000th goal

Connor Carrick scored the 20,000th regular-season goal in Hershey Bears history to help his team to a 6-1 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in Allentown, Pa., on Friday night.

The Bears, in their 77th season of play in the American Hockey League, became the first team in league history to reach 20,000 goals. The milestone came in the franchise’s 5,641st game.

Liam O’Brien, Chris ConnerJon Landry, Dustin Gazley and Chandler Stephenson also scored for Hershey in the win, the Bears’ fifth in a row. Philipp Grubauer made 24 saves as Hershey maintained its one-point lead over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton atop the AHL’s East Division.

Taylor Leier scored the only goal for Lehigh Valley, which has lost six of its last eight.

The Montreal Canadiens are the only National Hockey League team with at least 20,000 regular-season goals. The Canadiens reached the milestone on Mar. 5, 2013.
