Chicago edges Rockford 3-1

(chicagowolves.com) — The Chicago Wolves picked up their first win of the preseason Thursday night as they topped Midwest Division rival Rockford 3-1 at the MetroCentre.

Center Pat Cannone tallied twice and right wing Shane Harper rounded out scoring for the Wolves (1-1-0-0), who responded to a 1-0 first period deficit with three unanswered goals.

The IceHogs (0-1-0-0) took the first lead late in the opening period as left wing Garret Ross beat Chicago goaltender Jordan Binnington five-hole.

Harper notched a short-handed marker midway through the game to even the score and Cannone added two in the final 10 minutes — one into an empty net — to seal the victory. Wolves forwards Gergo Nagy and Sean Dolan and defenseman Mathieu Brodeur collected assists in the tilt.

Binnington turned away 15 of 16 shots and was relieved by Niklas Lundstrom at the halfway mark of the game. Lundstrom (1-0) kicked out all 12 shots he faced to earn the win. IceHogs goaltender Scott Darling (0-1) stopped 16 of 18.
