Colorado acquires Cannata

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club and the San Antonio Rampage announced Wednesday that the team has acquired goaltender Joe Cannata from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Cody Corbett. Cannata will be assigned to San Antonio of the American Hockey League.

Cannata, 27, has spent the majority of this season with the Hershey Bears (AHL). He’s 11-5-1 in 22 games this season with a 3.22 goals-against average and a .876 save percentage. Selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round (173rd overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Cannata has a 52-38-8 record in 110 career AHL games, posting a 2.72 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. A Wakefield, Mass. native, he played four seasons at Merrimack College from 2008-12.

Corbett, 23, has split time between the Rampage (AHL) and the Colorado Eagles (ECHL) this season. He has 10 points (2g/8a) in 23 games for San Antonio and five points (2g/3a) in seven contests for the Eagles.
