Columbus signs Aaron Johnson

The Columbus Blue Jackets, parent club of the AHL’s Springfield Falcons, have signed defenseman Aaron Johnson to one-year, two-way National Hockey League-American Hockey League contract.

Johnson, 28, has registered 14 goals and 32 assists for 46 points, 191 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +13 in 225 career NHL games, including 7-19-26 and 93 penalty minutes in 116 games with the Blue Jackets from 2003-07.

Last season, Johnson collected nine goals and 26 assists for 35 points, along with 70 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating, in 72 games with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals.

Columbus’s third-round pick in the 2001 Entry Draft, the Port Hawkesbury, N.S., native has tallied 26 goals and 83 assists for 109 points in 251 career AHL games with Syracuse, Bridgeport, Rockford and Milwaukee.
