Coyotes sign Yip to two-way deal

The Phoenix Coyotes, National Hockey League affiliate of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, have signed forward Brandon Yip to a one-year, two-way contract.

Last season, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Yip recorded three goals, five assists and 26 penalty minutes in 34 games with the Nashville Predators.

In parts of four NHL seasons with Nashville and Colorado, the 28-year-old native of Vancouver, B.C., has played in 172 regular-season games, recording 29 goals and 27 assists for 56 points. He has also appeared in 16 Stanley Cup playoff games, totaling three goals and three assists.

Yip played six AHL games with Lake Erie as a rookie in 2009-10, scoring two goals. He was originally drafted by the Avalanche in the eighth round in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
