Crunch ink four to contracts
The Syracuse Crunch have signed four players to AHL contracts today, agreeing to terms with defensemen Evan Oberg and Matt Taormina and forwards Mike Angelidis and Pierre-Cedric Labrie.
Oberg, 24, played in 54 AHL games during the 2011-12 season with the San Antonio Rampage and Norfolk Admirals, totaling seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points. The Forestburg, Alta., native
also tallied two goals and eight assists in 18 playoff games, helping Norfolk to a Calder Cup championship.
Oberg, who appeared in three NHL contests with Tampa Bay last season, has played in 167 career AHL games with Norfolk, San Antonio, Rochester and Manitoba, collecting 17 goals and 64 points, to go along with 138 penalty minutes.
Taormina, 25, spent the last three seasons in the New Jersey Devils organization. The Warren, Mich., native skated in 33 AHL games with Albany in 2011-12, collecting 16 points (6g, 10a), as well as 30 NHL games with New Jersey, earning seven points (1g, 6a).
Taormina has played in 119 career AHL games with Binghamton, Lowell and Albany, registering 71 points (18g, 53a), including a career-high 10 goals and 50 points as a rookie in 2009-10.
Angelidis, 26, spent the 2011-12 season with the Norfolk Admirals, where as captain he led the club to its first Calder Cup championship. The Woodbridge, Ont., native skated in 54 regular-season games with the Admirals, posting 27 points (14g, 13a), 135 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating. Angelidis recorded six points (1g, 5a) in 18 games during the Calder Cup Playoffs. The left wing also made his NHL debut with Tampa Bay last season, skating in six games and recording one goal.
Angelidis has played in 369 career AHL games with the Admirals and Albany River Rats, collecting 150 points (76g, 74a) to go along with 760 penalty minutes.
Labrie, 25, played the last two seasons with the Norfolk Admirals. During 2011-12, the left wing appeared in 56 games with the Admirals, collecting 35 points (14g, 21a) and 107 penalty minutes while ranking second in the AHL with a plus-33 rating. He also recorded nine points (5g, 4a) in 18 games during the Calder Cup Playoffs, and skated in his first 14 NHL games -- tallying two assists -- with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Entering his sixth pro season, Labrie has played in 311 career AHL games with Norfolk, Peoria and Manitoba, recording 101 points (39g, 62a).
