Cup champion Michaluk passes away

Former Calder Cup champion Art Michaluk passed away on Tuesday. He was 82.

Michaluk played defense for five seasons in the American Hockey League, all but one game of which coming with the Providence Reds. In 1948-49, he was a member of the Reds’ Calder Cup championship team.

Michaluk appeared in a total of 304 AHL games with Providence and Pittsburgh from 1947-52, recording 33 goals and 83 assists.

A native of Canmore, Alta., Michaluk served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, and following his retirement from hockey, spent 23 years on the police force in the city of Calgary, reaching the rank of sergeant.

Michaluk is survived by his wife, Josephine, three siblings, nine children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
