‘Dogs end preseason with another shutout

The Hamilton Bulldogs ended their preseason with a 3-0 win over the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday at General Motors Centre. The Bulldogs earned their third shutout in four games as they finish the preseason undefeated having won all four of their games.

Hamilton opened the game’s scoring at 4:03 of the middle stanza. David Desharnais sent a puck to P.K. Subban, who was positioned in front of the net. Subban released a shot that beat Toronto starting goaltender James Reimer through the legs.

Andrew Engelage replaced Reimer midway through the second period.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead at 12:01 of the final frame. Ryan Russell fed a pass to Mathieu Darche, who used a forehand-to-backhand move on Engelage before slipping the puck between the pads of the netminder.

Mike Glumac added an empty-net marker at 18:01 to seal the victory for the ‘Dogs.


DALLAS (NHL) 5, TEXAS 1
James Neal scored twice and Mike Ribeiro posted a goal and an assist as the NHL’s Dallas Stars took a 5-1 win over the Texas Stars in a battle of affiliates on Wednesday at Cedar Park Center.

Attendance for the game was 6,223.

2008 AHL All-Star Toby Petersen and Neal, AHL teammates in 2007-08, registered first-period goals to give Dallas a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.

Ribeiro made it 3-0 early in the third period, and after Texas’s Perttu Lindgren put the AHL’ers on the board later in the frame, Dallas got goals from Fabian Brunnstrom and Neal in the third to seal the victory.

Dallas goaltenders Marty Turco and Brent Krahn combined to make 23 saves on 24 shots.

Texas opens its inaugural AHL regular season on Friday at San Antonio before hosting the Rampage at Cedar Park Center on Saturday.
