Ducks acquire Gillies from Rangers

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, parent club of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, announced on Tuesday that they have acquired left wing Trevor Gillies and a conditional draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for center Steve Rucchin.

Gillies, 26, played in 49 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League last season, recording two assists with a team-leading 277 penalty minutes. In 148 career AHL games with Hartford, Springfield, Lowell, Providence and Worcester, Gillies has totaled two goals, four assists and 745 PIM.

A 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Cambridge, Ont., Gillies signed with the Rangers as a free agent on July 20, 2004. He has compiled at least 240 penalty minutes in each of his six pro seasons.

Rucchin, 34, played 10 NHL seasons with Anaheim, skating in 616 games.
