Falcons add muscle with Emmerson

The Springfield Falcons announced that they have signed forward Riley Emmerson to a standard American Hockey League contract.

The 6-foot-8, 248-pound native of Vancouver, B.C., will be entering his fourth season of professional hockey after splitting last year between the ECHL’s Florida Everblades and the AHL’s Rochester Americans. Emmerson made his AHL debut with the Americans last year collecting 107 penalty minutes in 42 games.

Emmerson started his pro career with the ECHL’s Texas Wildcatters collecting four goals and three assists for seven points and 241 penalty minutes in 93 games from 2006-2008. He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the seventh round (199th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
