Falcons hang on for 2-1 series lead

After Games 1 and 2 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series went to overtime, Mike McKenna made sure regulation would be enough in Game 3.

The Springfield goaltender stopped 42 shots and Dana Tyrell‘s shorthanded goal with 2:35 left in regulation stood up as the difference as the Falcons defeated Providence, 3-2, at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night.

Springfield leads the best-of-five series, 2-1, with Game 4 set for Tuesday night in Providence.

Jake Hansen broke a 1-1 tie with 2:32 gone in the third period to put the Falcons in front for good. McKenna stopped 17 shots in the final frame alone as the Bruins pressed for the equalizer.

Former Bruin Carter Camper also scored for the Falcons.

Matt Lindblad notched both goals for Providence, which got 22 saves from Niklas Svedberg.
