Falcons take Game 1 in overtime

Andrew Joudrey‘s goal 2:21 into overtime gave the Springfield Falcons a 3-2 road win over the Providence Bruins in the opening game of the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs.

The Falcons take a 1-0 series lead home with them for Game 2 on Friday and Game 3 on Saturday.

Joudrey took a touch pass from Dana Tyrell coming through the neutral zone and snapped a shot past Niklas Svedberg for the second playoff overtime goal of his AHL career.

David Warsofsky opened the scoring with a long drive on a Providence power play 13:41 into the first period.

Jean-Francois Jacques and Ryan Craig answered in the second period, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead.

Ryan Spooner scored the equalizer for the Bruins with 12:17 left in regulation.

Mike McKenna made 35 saves in net for Springfield, earning the victory in his first postseason action since 2010.

Svedberg finished with 31 stops for Providence.
