Flames double up Aeros on St. Patrick’s Day


QUAD CITY 4, HOUSTON 2

Quad City scored twice in the second period and two more times in the third on its way to a 4-2 road victory over Houston on Monday at the Toyota Center.

Cam Cunning notched a pair of goals for the Flames, while Matt Pelech and Derek Couture also scored in the win. Quad City improved to 3-1-0-2 against the division-rival Aeros this season.

After a scoreless first period, Cunning and Pelech scored in the second to give the Flames a 2-0 lead.

Each team then scored a pair of goals in the third stanza. Couture game the Flames a 3-0 lead at 9:30, and after Houston cut it to 3-1, Cunning rounded out Quad City’s scoring at 12:41.

Marco Rosa and Peter Olvecky lit the lamp for the Aeros, who have dropped two of three since a seven-game winning streak.

Flames goaltender Curtis McElhinney picked up the win with 29 saves on 31 shots.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday to close out their two-game set.
