Flyers recall Holmstrom

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that center Ben Holmstrom has been recalled from the Adirondack Phantoms, according to Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren.

Holmstrom, 24, has played in three games with the Flyers in his career including one this season on November 2 at Buffalo. The UMass-Lowell product was the Adirondack Phantoms’ team MVP for 2010-11 in his rookie season scoring 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points while playing in 79 out of 80 games with the Phantoms as well as two games with the Flyers.

Holmstrom is on a three-game goal scoring streak with Adirondack and has eight goals and eight assists on the year. In Saturday night’s victory at Syracuse, he converted on the team’s first penalty shot opportunity of the season after getting hauled down on a breakaway early in the third.

At the beginning of the season, Holmstrom was awarded the "C" on his sweater and became the youngest captain in Phantoms history.
