Goehring earns nod as goalie of the month

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
… The American Hockey League announced today that Karl Goehring of the Syracuse Crunch has been named the Rbk X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Month for March. Goehring was 7-0-1 in eight appearances last month, registering a 1.59 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage.

Goehring allowed just 13 goals on 268 shots during March, beginning with a 26-save effort in a 3-1 win over Rochester on Mar. 1. He stopped 38 shots in a 4-2 win at Hamilton on Mar. 2, and 26 of 27 in a shootout loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Mar. 8. Goehring was at his busiest late in month, facing at least 37 shots in each of his last three starts and making a season-high 39 saves in a 3-2 shootout victory over first-place Toronto on Mar. 26.

In recognition of his achievement, Goehring will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Crunch home game.

Goehring is 9-0-2 in his last 11 decisions and 13-9-2 in 27 total appearances this season with Syracuse, Norfolk and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, along with a 2.34 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and one shutout. The Crunch’s franchise leader in victories (76) has played 245 career AHL games, posting a record of 102-103-20 and 12 shutouts. A native of Apple Valley, Minn., Goehring played in the AHL All-Star Game in 2003 and was a two-time All-American at the University of North Dakota.
