Griffins, Bears make swap

The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday acquired right wing Jonas Johansson on loan from the Washington Capitals. In return, the Griffins have loaned forward Scott Barney to the AHL’s Hershey Bears.

Johansson, 22, was selected by the Colorado Avalanche with their first choice in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with Washington in 2005-06 and played the majority of the season with Hershey, helping the Bears capture the Calder Cup.

The Jonkoping, Sweden, native played 44 games for Hershey this season, contributing 24 points (5g, 19a) and 48 penalty minutes. Johansson is expected to make his Griffins debut on Wednesday in Rochester.

barney_200.jpgBarney, 27, appeared in 40 games for the Griffins this season, totaling 12 points (4g, 8a) and 26 PIM. Barney, who played for Bears head coach Bruce Boudreau in Manchester from 2002-04, scored 32 goals last season in just 53 games for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves.

In 199 career AHL games, Barney has recorded 69 goals and 46 assists for 115 points.
