Gulls to unveil new LED scoreboard

The San Diego Gulls and Valley View Casino Center have announced that the venue will unveil a new state-of-the-art LED scoreboard prior to the 2015-16 AHL season.

“We are thrilled to continue working with the Valley View Casino Center to deliver a dynamic experience to our great fans,” said Ari Segal, San Diego Gulls president of business operations. “The significantly larger video display area on the new board combined with Valley View Casino Center’s recently updated sound system represent tremendous enhancements to the game day environment.”

The new scoreboard will feature brand new LED screens on all four sides as well as a brand new LED “doughnut” display. The screens will measure 12-feet-tall and 22-feet-wide, more than three-and-a-half times the square footage of the existing video board.

The San Diego Gulls and Valley View Casino Center have partnered with Daktronics for the manufacture and installation of the new scoreboard. Daktronics is the world’s industry leader in designing and manufacturing electronic scoreboards, programmable display systems and large screen video displays. In addition to the in-bowl improvements, including the video board, doughnut and sound system, Valley View Casino Center’s main video control suite will also be completely replaced with new, state-of-the-art equipment.

Since the AHL’s Pacific Division announcement on Jan. 29, 2015, the Valley View Casino Center and San Diego Gulls have worked together on a range of initiatives to enhance the fan experience. While the new scoreboard will be the centerpiece of these improvements, a new dasher board system composed of NHL-standard boards, curved glass and netting, new concessions featuring several local restaurant concepts and vendors, and renovated player/team areas such as locker and training rooms, will also be ready for the Gulls’ inaugural AHL season.

“The Valley View Casino Center is excited to work with the Gulls management team to support the return of hockey to San Diego,” said Ernie Hahn, general manager of the Valley View Casino Center. “We are committed to providing a first-class experience for all fans that walk through our doors. While our building provides amazing sight lines from each and every seat, the new scoreboard will only enhance the experience for all fans.”
