Heat turn it up late, force Game 5

Five minutes away from elimination, the Stockton Heat roared back and defeated San Jose, 5-3, in Game 4 of their Pacific Division semifinal series at Stockton Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The winner-take-all Game 5 will be Tuesday evening in San Jose (7 p.m. PT).

Rookie Andrew Mangiapane tied the game with 5:05 left in regulation, scoring his first goal of the series after a 20-goal showing during the regular season.

Linden Vey then buried the winner with 2:56 to play, and added an empty-netter for his second two-goal game of the series.

Hunter Shinkaruk and Garnet Hathaway registered a goal and an assist each for the Heat, who have 14 goals in the last three games after being shut out in the series opener. David Rittich (2-1) made 34 saves for the win.

Daniel O’Regan, Buddy Robinson and Tim Heed scored for the Barracuda, while Nick DeSimone and Rourke Chartier each had two assists.

Troy Grosenick (2-2) stopped 28 of 32 shots in the loss.
