(texasstarshockey.com) — Rookie goaltender Magnus Hellberg stopped all 23 shots he faced as the the Milwaukee Admirals shut out the Texas Stars, 2-0, on Saturday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

The series is now tied at 1-1 and shifts to Texas for Games 3, 4 and (if necessary) 5.

After a scoreless first period where Milwaukee outshot Texas, 12-2, the Admirals opened the scoring 12:04 into the middle frame. Michael Liambas’ shot from the left wing was turned aside by goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp, but the rebound was knocked home by Austin Watson for a 1-0 lead.

The Stars outshot Milwaukee 10-6 in the second period, but couldn’t get a shot past Hellberg.

Texas turned up the heat on Hellberg in the third period, outshooting the Admirals 11-3, but the rookie continued to hold the line in goal. With 90 seconds left in regulation, the Stars pulled Nilstorp for an extra attacker and created several good scoring chances before Milwaukee captain Mike Moore shot the puck from the middle of his own zone all the way down into the empty net for an unassisted goal at 19:31.

Hellberg, the reigning CCM/AHL Player of the Week after a 4-0-0 showing to end the regular season, earned his first career Calder Cup Playoff win and shutout in goal for Milwaukee. Nilstorp made 19 saves on 20 shots and took the loss for Texas.

Game 3 is Wednesday night in Cedar Park.
