IceCaps extend run with playoff berth

The IceCaps are playing their final season in St. John’s, but their 2016-17 finale turned into a celebration of a trip to the playoffs.

St. John’s knocked off Toronto, 4-1, to clinch the fourth and final spot in the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs out of the North Division. The IceCaps will meet Syracuse in the first round.

This will be the IceCaps’ third postseason appearance in their six seasons of play. St. John’s reached the conference finals in 2012 and went all the way to the Calder Cup Finals in 2014.

The Montreal Canadiens are moving their AHL affiliate to Laval, Que., for next season.
