The New York Islanders announced today that they have claimed Keith Aucoin off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Aucoin, 34, has appeared in 102 career National Hockey League games, split between the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals. The Waltham, Mass., native has NHL career of totals 11 goals and 26 assists (37 points) with a plus-7 rating.
This season with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, Aucoin has 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists) with a plus-7 rating in 34 games, ranking fifth in the league in scoring and third in assists.
Aucoin has played 707 career AHL games, ranking fifth in league history with 581 assists and 10th all-time with 814 points. His resume also includes a record-tying six All-Star Game appearances, three selections to the AHL First All-Star Team and three selections to the AHL Second All-Star Team. He won back-to-back Calder Cup championships with the Hershey Bears in 2008-09 and 2009-10, and was named the AHL’s Most Valuable Player in 2009-10 while also winning a scoring title.
