Jaffray’s hat trick leads Moose past Bears, 4-2

MANITOBA 4, HERSHEY 2

Jason Jaffray tallied his second hat trick of the season to lead Manitoba over visiting Hershey by a 4-2 count on Thursday before 6,667 fans at the MTS Centre. Jaffray scored a goal in each period for the Moose, who earned a split of their two-game home set with the Bears.

Manitoba moved one point up on Hamilton for second place in the North Division and avenged a 4-3 loss to Hershey on Wednesday.

Jaffray opened the game’s scoring at 3:35 of the first period, tallied a power play goal in the second stanza, and completed the hat trick at 11:11 of the third. His other three-goal effort this season came on Nov. 23, in a 6-4 loss at Syracuse.

Alexandre Bolduc also scored for the Moose, who built a 3-0 lead by the 6:06 mark of the second period.

But the Bears would claw back into the game. Josef Boumedienne and Kyle Wilson netted second-period markers, making it a 3-2 score. Boumedienne has a point in 18 of his last 19 contests, while Wilson’s goal was his 20th of the campaign.

Jaffray’s third-period goal provided insurance for Moose netminder Cory Schneider, who picked up the victory with 24 saves.

Jannik Hansen contributed three assists for Manitoba, giving him six points (2-4-6) in his last three games.
